The DACH Chapter of the ISMRM awards the best current works of young scientists (engineers, computer scientists, and all natural scientists) in the field of biomedical magnetic resonance with the Gorter Prize 2026. This year, for the first time, the Gorter award will not be open to physicians and medical students. There will be a separate medical young investigator award. Details about the medical young investigator award can be found here. Exception: if a physician or medical student also holds or aims for a degree in natural sciences or engineering and fulfills otherwise the requirements for a Gorter application.
Applications with an excellent thesis or one original first-author publication in biomedical magnetic resonance are possible up to 2 years after the PhD is awarded. The submissions should be MR method development or theory. Applicants must be members of the DACH-ISMRM. The work must not have been published before 2025, and the applicant’s affiliation must be with a research institution in Austria, Germany, or Switzerland. Furthermore, the work must be published (or accepted for publication, with confirmation included in this case) by the time of application.
All documents should be in English.

- A detailed abstract of the work (3-5 pages). Please use the template provided here and expand it to the required 3-5 pages.
- An application letter (1-2 pages). This must include a detailed explanation of your own contribution to the work and why you deem the work to be priceworthy.
- A CV (1-2 pages).
- Please be aware that we had to change this part of the guidelines again due to technical reasons. An older version stated that a regular abstract had not to be submitted. This is incorrect, as of March 17th, 2026. An additional regular abstract is to be submitted to the official conference page, following the guidelines mentioned there. The submission site is only available in German this year as an exception due to our collaboration with the DGMP (The German Society of Medical Physics), which uses a conference-organizing company that operates only in German. Please use your Browsers translation option.

The Gorter Award 2026 will be awarded during the annual meeting of the DACH-ISMRM in Bamberg (16th to 19th of September 2026). Meeting details can be found here.
From all applications, the finalists will be selected. They will present their work during the Chapter Meeting. Based on the presentations and the subsequent discussion, the awardees will be defined.
The prizes for the best finalists are endowed with €1000 (1st), €500 (2nd), and €250 (3rd), respectively.
All non-finalist abstracts will undergo the regular abstract review process.

Gorter-Ausschreibung 2026
Die Deutsche Sektion der ISMRM e. V. zeichnet mit dem Gorter-Preis die beste aktuelle Arbeit auf dem Gebiet der biomedizinischen Magnetresonanz eines/einer jungen Wissenschaftler:in der Naturwissenschaften (z.B. Physik, Ingenieurwesen, Psychologie, Pharmazie oder Biologie, u. v. m.) aus. In diesem Jahr ist der Gorter-Preis erstmals nicht für Mediziner:innen zugelassen. Stattdessen werden wir zum ersten Mal einen separaten medizinischen Preis für Nachwuchswissenschaftler:innen ausschreiben. Details dazu hier. Ausnahme: Wenn ein/e Mediziner:in oder Medizinstudent:in auch einen Abschluss in den Naturwissenschaften oder Ingenieurswissenschaften hat oder anstrebt und ansonsten die Voraussetzungen für eine Gorter-Preis-Bewerbung erfüllt.
Für den Gorter-Preis können sich Absolventen:innen und Wissenschaftler:innen bis zu zwei Jahre nach Abschluss der Promotion mit einer erstklassigen Bachelor-, Master- oder Doktorarbeit oder als Erstautor:in einer hervorragenden Originalarbeit auf dem Gebiet der biomedizinischen Magnetresonanz bewerben. Die Arbeit sollte sich auf eine MR-Methodik oder -Theorie beziehen. Die Bewerber:innen müssen Mitglied der DACH-ISMRM sein. Die Arbeit sollte nicht vor 2025 veröffentlicht worden sein, und eine Affiliation des/des Bewerbers:in zu einer Institution in Deutschland, Österreich oder der Schweiz sollte bestehen. Außerdem muss die Arbeit zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung angenommen bzw. bestanden worden sein.

Die Bewerbung erfolgt hier durch Hochladen folgender Dokumente (bitte nur PDF-Dateien hochladen):
- Ein ausführliches Abstract der Arbeit (3-5 Seiten). Bitte verwenden Sie die offizielle Vorlage (Link).
- Ein Bewerbungsschreiben (1-2 Seiten). Hierin sollte die Preiswürdigkeit erläutert und klar hervorgehen, was der eigene Beitrag zur Arbeit war.
- Ein Lebenslauf (1-2 Seiten).
- Wir haben die Guidelines mehrmals aufgrund technischer Probleme auf dieser Webseite aktualisiert. Es ist zu beachten, dass ab sofort (Stand 17.3.) ein reguläres Abstract ist hier auf der Webseite der gemeinsamen DGMP- und DACH-ISMRM-Jahrestagung einzureichen ist.
Alle Dokumente (außer dem regulären Abstract) müssen hier eingereicht werden.

Der Gorter-Preis 2026 wird während der Jahrestagung der DACH-ISMRM in Bamberg (16.–19. September 2026) verliehen.
Aus allen Bewerbungen werden die Finalist:innen ausgewählt. Sie werden ihre Arbeit während der Tagung vorstellen. Die Preisträger:innen werden auf Grundlage der Präsentationen und der anschließenden Diskussion ausgewählt.
Alle Beiträge, die nicht in die Endrunde kommen, werden dem Review-Verfahren zur Überprüfung regulärer Beiträge unterzogen.
An die besten drei Beiträge werden folgende Preise verliehen: 1. Platz 1000 €, 2. Platz 500 €, 3. Platz 250 €.
